    Nice feel but quite light

It’s a nice design, some retro beach vibes, but overall the weight is quite light. Hope it’s strong enough to last.

    Smallish handle

Face grips well. Nice lightweight paddle. Only gripe is that the handle is pretty short, so two hand backhands are pretty weird with my adult hands. Might work better for kids.

    Great starter Paddle

I like to spin the ball and this paddle is able to spin it fairly well. The weight is perfect it’s not heavy at all. I was able to control the ball pretty well with this paddle. I would recommend it for anyone starting out and not wanting to buy a 250 dollar paddle.

Just got this paddle a few weeks ago, but it’s already my favorite! It’s light weight, but durable and has awesome comfort. It has solid construction as well. Love the color scheme too! Would highly recommend it for beginners or even experienced players. Love GAMMA!

A great paddle with superior grip

I recently had the pleasure of trying out the GAMMA Sports Micron 5.0 composite pickleball paddle and I must say, it exceeded all of my expectations. This paddle is a true game-changer in the world of pickleball gear and I cannot recommend it enough. The composite hitting surface and polypropylene core provide a perfect mix of accessibility and precision, allowing for responsive shots with minimal effort. The honeycomb grip is also a standout feature, offering a firm surface that absorbs sweat and offers high traction for maximum control and comfort. What impressed me the most about this paddle was its ability to deliver both power and control. The wide sweet spot and unique surface spin tech made it easy to change up my shots and control the game pace. Whether I was competing or training, this paddle helped give me an edge on the court. At 7.9 ounces and 16″ long, the GAMMA Sports Micron 5.0 paddle is the perfect weight and size for any player. It can handle fast exchanges, sending balls flying over the net with ease. Plus, its sleek design is visually appealing and sure to turn heads on the court.Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with this paddle and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to level up their pickleball game. GAMMA Sports has truly outdone themselves with this product, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

    Super lightweight and good quality.

I was drawn to this one because it has a cool looking print. So many of them are black or gray, I wanted something lighter. That said, I also got it because it’s a great quality. It is extremely lightweight and has a good texture on the surface for added control. The grip is good. It has a polypropylene core and all the bells and whistles. Five stars!

    Gives the player more control

A definite difference in feel from my original paddle. Control is different, placement of ball is easier, and the grit on the paddle helps outwit even the best opponent (helps to add spin to your shots). Also, this paddle has a larger sweet spot, which is a lot easier to take advantage of.Haven’t used my old paddle since I got this one.

    Good paddle

I been playing 7 years and have tried quite a few paddles.Paddles are rather subtle as far as making my game better.. I played with this one for a couple hours and my game is no worse. I think this paddle is decent, has a good solid feel and hit. . It has good control, but not as much power as some.. I only noticed moderate spin… Grip feels good and nice colorful art work. All in all, a good paddle at a reasonable price…

Perfect for a beginner and beyond!

I’ve been playing for about 4 months. I got this on Prime Day for a really good price and have been very happy with it. I seem to be playing much better with it than my cheaper paddle. I would definitely recommend this for beginners, even players with more experience! Maybe you need something better when you are a really good player, but I’m not there yet, so I can’t speak to that.

Gamma Micron 5.0 pickleball paddle has an elongated face; which helps with reach ( great for younger players ). Grip feels nice to hold and comfortable to play. It’s thinner than 13mm but paddle doens’t feel cheap and produces good response and shots. Overall the paddle is good for people who want to try more spin, faster swing and a bit more reach. Grip size is 4 & 1/8 “Good choice for beginner and plus.

    Nice Racket for Intermediate Player

This is a light paddle with a comfortable grip. My hands are medium size (for a man) and it feels right. The surface has more “active” area than my old cheaper paddle. I appreciate the reduced weight. My old one was heavier than most and it did not translate to a better game. I would recommend this paddle to anyone from beginner to intermediate player. If you are an advanced player you might want to go somewhere where you can sample a number of paddles or talk to a local pro.

    Moderate to Advance players

I was disappointed this shipped in a poly bag. For the price, I’d expect it to come in a box and protected with bubble wrap at the least. Luckily, no damage.Gamma is a pretty well known tennis string and balls brand so I took a chance on this. After about 3 hours of play, and multiple players using it, it definitely is not made for the beginner. It runs pretty heavy and doesn’t give you a lot of feel. It almost feels like a wooden paddle. The sweet spot is pretty small and if you hit it in the right place, it is like a trampoline. This is best for an advanced player.

    Maybe not for a beginner

Upfront confession – I’m just getting started on pickle ball. I would not have ordered this paddle were it not part of the vine program. At my pickle ball level you can get two paddles, four balls, a case ,a cup of coffee and a slice of cake for the price of this one paddle. :)So, to be fair to GAMMA I’m probably not the best reviewer. What I can tell you about this paddle is it’s solid. To me it does not feel heavy or poorly weighted and it plays just fine for my game (i.e. BASIC!!).It is disappointing that for $70 there is not a protective case of some description, but you know what you are (and aren’t) getting when you order it, so no dings on the review for that.In summary – if you are beginner, this is overkill – you don’t need it. If you are stepping up your game…. you probably need to read the other reviews and not mine! 5 Stars!

    Great Design, Comfortable Grip

This is a really great Pickleball paddle. My husband and I are new to the sport, and instantly fell in love with the game after our first match. This paddle is great quality and is perfect for beginners or those who have been playing a while. It has a great design and a very comfortable grip. I got a paddle that is more feminine and this one is for my husband, but I would say this design could work for anyone. I actually like the extra padding of his grip versus mine. The retro design is fun and stands out well when we go to the public courts. I do wish it came with a cover and packaged more securely, though. Otherwise, highly recommend!

As I get more serious about playing Pickleball, I expect more out of my paddles. This paddle meets MY expectations and then some. It IS very light weight. I plan to play around with adding some extra weights but that’s my thing. The handle is very “grippy” and is a perfect fit for my long thin fingered hand. It has a sand papery feeling to the surface which I’ve been working with on my spins. This seems like a now brainer if that’s part of YOUR game. Super high quality paddle!

This is really a very nice paddle. The construction is great. I like the textured surface, the weight and how good it feels in your hand. This paddle is a step above most beginner paddles but still very affordable. I like how it performs and how much more control this allows me to exert and the feel is much more noticeable. I like the simple and modern design, it’s actually nice to see a paddle like this because many seem to have similar designs. The grip is very good and feels like it will hold up well to long term use and reduce any need to re-grip it sooner rather than later. This is a nice brand and I will definitely consider them in the future for more of my pickleball needs.

Pickleball has become hugely popular where I live (Texas) and has become a very inter-generational sport. My 6 yo granddaughter has been taking lessons and I’d like to play along sometimes. As I’m new to this sport – I can only compare this racquet to other racquet sports I’ve played (tennis and racquetball) and I could tell immediately that I like the grip on this racquet. It fits nicely and feels well balanced in my hand. The bright design colors make my eyes happy and my few practice swings have felt just about right.Anxious to give this a try on the courts!

Can’t argue- makes me a better player

I always say, spending money on better golf clubs isn’t going to improve my game. But the same isn’t true regarding this paddle. I’m a fairly new pickleball player, so I definitely have a lot to learn and improvements to make. But this paddle…WOW. It’s about the same weight as my last paddle, but somehow feels “quicker”. The grip is very comfortable and provides all the control I need. What’s really different about this paddle is the texture of the hitting surface. There’s a little “grab” to it, so I can easily add a little spin to my game with very little effort on my part. And when I want it to go straight, there’s definitely a pop of the ball off the paddle.I highly recommend this paddle, and would give it more stars if I could.

    Power and Control

Been using carbon/graphite paddles but wanted more power from the baseline. Tried my buddy’s Atomic 2.0 and loved the power of composite but it didn’t have enough control. This new Gamma Atomic 5.0 is the ticket! I have much more power, actually learning how to leash the power, AND has as mouch, if not more control than my other paddles….. and a fantastic price point. IMO it’s better than the $200+ paddles I tried!

Lightweight with a nice size grip

This is a very good quality paddle, and at this price, you find single paddles (not the sets) that have features the players are looking for. Each player that has played pickleball for a while has probably borrowed other players’ paddles. Therefore they start to know what will make a difference in their game. All the sizes, weights, construction, grip, etc., are close but different. What I like best about the GAMMA Sports 5.0 Pickleball paddle is its grip. It measures a 4 1/8″ grip. (or 4.12″). compared to other paddles at 4.25 or 4.35 or 4.72 makes this paddle is slightly slimmer and easier to be held for those with smaller hands or those that want to have a tighter grip. The other features are fine, but I’ll be grabbing this one when I’m playing.

    Good intermediate paddle

I liked the look of this paddle, so I went out to play with it even though the weather was a bit dodgy. When the snow and hail started I moved to my other paddle so this one wouldn’t get too much of a pounding, however, I got a good feel for its playability in that time.It comes in at 7.9oz (at least the one I got does), right at what they claim, which is what I wanted to complement the lightweight (7.2 oz) paddle I use, and the slightly heavier one (8.2 oz). It feels like a good jack of all trades. Heavy enough to smash, but light enough not to strain your tennis elbow (if you have such a thing!).The textured surface helped with my spin and slice shots, and the grip is nice and tacky without the ridges that I sometimes like, but usually don’t.It feels like a good paddle, well-constructed, and a cool retro design. I compare it to some of the lower to mid level Selkirk and Onix paddles, and it fits with those paddles. Its price places right in there those other intermediate paddles, and I think this is a decent choice to move up to from some of the beginner paddles that cost $15-30 each.

    Great paddle

This is a great midrange price paddle. The handle has a soft grip that has a sort of “tackiness” to it that allows you to hang on to it whether you’re using a loose or tight grip. The paddle surface is pretty impressive. It has a lot of grit that allows you to put some serious spin on the ball. It has a nice pop to the ball when you are at the net and need to drive one past your opponent. I think this can compete with some upper level paddles pretty easily. The design is very sharp and looks great. Overall, one of my favorite paddles. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Best beginner to intermediate paddle I have tried at this price

I am writing this review after playing with the Micro for about 1/2 hour against a practice wall and then for another three hours on the court. This paddle is very comparable to another paddle that I use, the PCKL Launch. The Launch is a bit lighter, has a slightly bigger circumference grip, no texture on its face and runs about $5 less.I have found that the Micro has a very large sweet spot, I did not have a dead hit the entire time I have used it. Over about the same period of time, I had a few with the PCKL paddle. The sides of the Micron are rounded slightly where most paddles are straight. I wonder if this has anything to do with it?The Micron has a textured face while the Launch does not. At my skill level, this hardly matter but it’s nice that the Micron will be ready if I ever get to the point where I can put some spin on the ball. They both feel great in the hand, appear to have excellent construction and look really sharp. Both are USAPA approved for tournament play and are manufactured by a well-known name brand. My only slight ding is that I wish that it came with a paddle cover.I would be happy to play with either paddle. Before I tried the Gamma Micron, I would have recommended the PCKL Launch for beginners/intermediates at this price. After trying the Micron though, I’d have to say the Micron edges it out slightly due to the textured face and larger sweet spot. At the moment, this is my favorite paddle at this price.

The paddle has a good textured hitting surface for controlled spin shots. It has good control of shots and is a nice option as an upgrade from basic composite or wood paddlesThe construction quality is good and this paddle should last well.It would have been nice to include a protective cover at this price point.Overall a nice quality paddle.

    Best paddle I’ve had!

This is my favorite paddle I’ve had yet! I’ve tried a few different brands and gamma just keeps delivering. Great design and appearance. The handle is perfect and the quality with the grip is unmatched. Only played with it a few times so far but haven’t played better with other paddles. Almost seems like I can beat anyone with it since I haven’t lost a match yet since I got it. If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck you won’t be getting a better deal than this. Also, my partner loves the smack of it on their butt after we score a point.

    This is a power paddle

This Gamma Micron 5.0 paddle weighed in at 8 ounces. I really like the color of the graphics on the paddle face. This paddle makes a very loud pop when you hit the ball and drives are powerful. I found the control on this paddle to be just okay and it really didn’t soften my shots very well. This is not a thick paddle at 12mm thick. I played ten games with this paddle and the white paddle face was looking pretty dirty. I used a paddle eraser on it and it restored to almost new looking. This paddle would fit the bill if you’re looking for a power paddle.

2023-04-15. GAMMA Micron 5.0 Pickleball Paddle. Fiberglass. 16.” x 8″. 7.9 oz. 4 1/8 grip.Pickleball paddles are like any other sports equipment, they’re highly based on the user. Tennis racquets, baseball bats, baseball mitts, hockey sticks, la cross sticks, etc. everyone will have their own preference, and manufacturers will make a variety of paddles on purpose to try to accommodate everyone. For this reason, it’s practically impossible to take anyone’s rating and try to apply it to yourself. Think about it, would you be a better hockey player if you had the same brand of hockey skates and hockey stick that Wayne Gretzky used? Or would you be able to play like Michael Jordan if you wore his shoes? Of course, not. So rather than me trying to tell you which paddle is good and which one is bad, I’m going to educate you so that you can decide for yourself based on your personal skills and intended level of play. This review should be treated as a general guideline. There are 3 factors that really do matter when shopping for pickleball paddles. 1. Have a weight you can play best with. 2. Have a grip size that fits your hand. 3. Have a shape and build that matches your playing style.Weight should be the overall top priority. Paddles range in weight from approximately 6 (lightweight paddles) to 14 ounces (heavy paddles). A few ounces may not sound like much of a difference but try carrying a can of soup in your hand and swinging it around for a couple of hours.Pickleball Paddle Weight Ranges: Lightweight Paddles Under 7.3 oz Mid-weight Paddles 7.3 to 8.4 oz Heavy Paddles 8.5 oz and overPaddle weight will determine the “feel” of the paddle when you have it in your hand and the type of action you will get when you play with it on the court. In general, the weight of the paddle is a personalpreference that mostly depends on your fitness level and style of play.Lightweight vs. Heavy Pickleball PaddlesLighter Paddles Heavier PaddlesPROS PROSIncreased ball control More powerBetter maneuverability Less effort to hit ball harderLess stress on elbow/shoulder Easier to hit the ball deepCONS CONSReduced Power/Drive Stress on injuries, especially elbowsStronger swing needed Less control, slower swingHarder to hit long/hard shots Increases fatigue if playing for a long timeFind Your Grip SizeOnce you have decided on the correct paddle weight, the next decision is the grip size. It is essential to pick a pickleball paddle that has the correct grip circumference to match your hand size. It sounds simple but you need to pick a grip that fits your hand!A smaller grip allows for more wrist action, which makes it easier to put spin on the ball and improves control. Increased wrist movement can also add extra power to your serve.A larger grip will help increase your stroke stability while easing the strain on the wrist, elbow and shoulder joints. The caveat here is that using a paddle handle that is much too large for your hand can lead to elbow strain. How to measure your grip size. One important thing to remember is you can always increase the size by adding an overgrip …but there is no way to decrease the grip size, so when in doubt buy a size that is one step down (⅛ to ¼ smaller) and then add overgrip or tape to match your grip size as needed. Most paddles come with standard grips from 4 to 4 ½ inches.Easy Way To Measure Grip Size By HeightYour Height Grip SizeUnder 5’2″ 4″ Grip5’3″ to 5’8″ 4 1/8″ to 4 1/4″ Grip5’9″ & taller 4 1/2″ GripRing Finger Measurement:A pickleball player can measure his or her grip size with a ruler to determine the correct paddle grip size.Measure the distance from the tip of your ring finger, down to the middle crease in your palm. Your palmhas three creases.Paddle Materials and Composition (Build)There are four different types of pickleball paddles. Wooden paddles, composite paddles, graphite paddles and carbon fiber paddles. Figuring out which type is best, can be confusing.I’ve found that there is no best type of pickleball paddle for any given player. Rather there are differentpaddles based on your style of play and/or your desired area of improvement. If you’re a type of player that already has enough strength behind your swing and you want to work on your accuracy, then then a composite paddle, or sometimes referred to as a fiberglass paddle, will be better for you as they focus more on precision rather than power. A word of warning though, composite or fiberglass paddles are the softest of the bunch, so energy is not being evenly spread across the entire face of the paddle when you make contact with the ball. This translates to a smaller sweet spot. For beginners, a racquet with a smaller sweet spot isn’t exactly the best choice…If, on the other hand, you already have great control and are looking to improve power, then a graphite paddle may suit you better. Graphite is one of the lightest and thinnest paddle surface materials you’ll encounter. In addition, graphite is incredibly rigid and stiff. Graphite is such a strong material, you can get plenty of power with a thin layer of it. This combination of light and strong gives you that fast action off the paddle with a powerful boost! I would also recommend a graphite paddle for those who are a little more experienced and want to improve their touch; especially at the net. Graphite paddles offer great response time because they’re as light as a feather and generally provide a little better feel for softer shots. Graphite paddles are moderately powerful, so if you already have that control, then you can hit those hard shots and rely on your touch over power.Next up, we’ve got carbon fiber paddles. Carbon fiber is technically a form of graphite. Carbon fiber is quite stiff and light, but it’s even more durable than graphite. Graphite is essential packed layers of carbon. Carbon fiber is layered in ribbons and interlinked in a way that they form fibers. These fibers are then woven together creating greater strength and rigidity while using less material to be lighter. Carbon fiber paddles do not suit my fitness style of play. They’re expensive, can provide a little too much power for beginners and are at times less forgiving. These are for experienced players only in my opinion.Wooden paddles. They’re practically non-existent for a reason. I absolutely don’t recommend them. End of story.Core ConstructionThe basic difference between the three common types of composite cores:Aluminum CoreThese paddles offer lighter weight, aluminum cores. The internal honeycomb aluminum structures make for a stronger paddle while still being light enough to give great action and control. The aluminum core can be a great option for the “control” player who is willing to sacrifice some drive and power for more finesse and maneuverability.Nomex Honeycomb CoreNomex™ has many tech applications and in recent years has been used to create durable pickleball paddles. The process starts with a material resembling cardboard which is subsequently dipped in resin to create a very durable material that can be used to construct paddles by arranging it in a honeycomb pattern.Nomex was the first material used to create composite paddles and is still a leader in the pickleball industry. These are the hardest and loudest paddles and give that well-known “popping” sound that you hear on the pickleball court. If you are looking for speed and power on your shots, this is probably the best choice.Polymer (Poly or Polypropylene) CoreThe polymer core paddles are made of a plastic blend, while considered the newest core technology on the pickleball market today it’s also one of the most popular. Polymer pickleball paddles are considered the quietest paddles on the market. This fact could be an important part of the buying decision if you areliving in a gated community, shared gym space or recreation center where the noise produced by pickleball can be a negative factor.Apart from being the quietest of the three cores, these paddles are softer. While you can still put power behind your shots with a good polymer core, the core does dampen the shot so these are a better pick for a control player.Paddle Shapes and SizesThe official pickleball regulation for the dimensions an approved pickleball paddle states that thecombined length and width, including any edge guard and butt cap, shall not exceed 24 inches (60.96 cm). The paddle length cannot exceed 17 inches (43.18 cm). There is no restriction on paddle thickness.Wide Body PaddlesThe most common classic shaped pickleball paddle is a “wide-body” measures approximately 8 inches wide by 15¾ inches long (20.32 cm x 40 cm).Oversized PaddlesMany pickleball paddle manufacturers now design oversized paddles by adding length to the face and shortening the length of the handle, therefore keeping the total length of the pickleball paddle the same and within regulation.Elongated Pickleball PaddleThere is a new pickleball paddle category on the market that includes paddles such as the “Encore Blade” that sacrifice face width to allow for increased the pickleball paddle length to up to 17”. This type of paddle would be more of a specialty paddle for a more experienced player looking for added reach. Part of the challenge with this category of pickleball paddle for newbies is the small “sweet spot”, think of it as the perfect part of the face where you get the best percentage shot. The longer, thin paddle shape gives these a narrow sweet spot which makes it harder for novice players to hit consistently. So there you have it, the skinny on pickleball paddles. I know I’ve said a lot without really saying anything at all about these paddles, but that’s intentional. Hopefully you would have jotted down a few notes of he features and characteristics of your own skill level and playing style to know what WEIGHT, GRIP SIZE, and SHAPE & BUILD you need. From there, just look at the specs of any paddles that catch your attention and see if they fit your profile. Of course, as your skill level progresses or your style of play changes, you’llprobably want to upgrade/change your paddles to complement, but by that time, you’ll know enough about paddles on your own to know what you’re looking for. There really is no way to accurately state that one racquet is better over another as each individual will have their own set of preferences which will bias the rating. This is why I’ve decided to provide you with just enough info to start you off, and you’ll need cross the finish line on this one without me… Have fun!OK. Fine, you’ve twisted my arm… let’s review the specs of this pickleball paddle by GAMMA.This paddle measures 16″ in length and 8″ in width totaling 24″ keeping it within regulation a widebody paddle. The grip size 4 1/8″ making it ideal for players under 5’8″. It weighs in at 7.9 oz making it a mid-weight paddle. The core is polypropylene and the surface face is fiberglass (note: if you want a graphite surface, go for their Neutron or Voltage models). Overall this is a good racquet for someone picking up the game or the novice player looking to improve control.Note: I give all my sports equipment reviews an arbitrary rating of 4 stars.

    Excellent Pickleball Paddle

One of the better paddles that isn’t a well known brand that I’ve tried so far. The size is good, nice handle and grip, the face of the paddle has an appropriate amount of grit to it allowing for better control and ability to spin the ball on command. Lightweight but durable. Visually it’s a little dated with the color scheme, but that is likely more personal color preferences than anything else. From a playability, this is an excellent choice for the price point.

5 Stars!
