How does it work?
Turn your pen on, wait for the green light, insert a strand of filament into the back of your pen until you feel it grip. One click of the orange button is all it takes to get the Start+ pen running, and a second click will stop the pen.
Which plastic refills can be used? Is it safe?
The 3Doodler Start+ 3D Pen is only compatible with the 3Doodler Start Plastic filaments which is 2.5mm in diameter. The strands are made from the highest quality materials and have all been subjected to the strictest standards of safety testing.
Is the pen safe for children?
3Doodler Start plastic is warm to the touch when extruded from the tip of the pen, completely safe to touch! Pen tip doesn’t get hot either, so there is no burn risk. Safely use your hands to shape your Doodles to perfection before they harden.

Super cool pen BUT Runs fast
Got this as a Xmas gift for my 6yo nephew and although he (and my 12yo niece) loves it, I found they got frustrated with it due to how quickly the filament runs through the pen. Just a bit too fast for them and even for me (all as beginners). We still found cool things to make, hoping they’ll catch on to the speed eventually.

Great for kids
This pen was easy to use right out of the box. I don’t have to worry about it getting to hot or making a mess. This has kept my 10 year old occupied for hours. There have been some issues with the filament jamming- day 2 it just wouldn’t work anymore. I contacted the company who was immediately responsive and sent us a replacement. We sent the pen back to them where they determined what the issue was so they could help us prevent it from happening in the future. The tip they provided was a critical piece of information- which leads to the next comment- I wish there was more in terms of direction and tips in the book that came with the tool. The documentation could be bulked up for troubleshooting help.Otherwise- we love this pen. I would highly recommend it for a gift.

Fun 3D pen for kids – nice gift idea!
This 3d pen is easy to use and comes with everything that you need to get started – just charge (with the included cable) and go! Plenty of different colors are included for whatever design that you want to make. The idea book is a nice touch and shows you how to make many different things PLUS includes the templates needed – just place the clear mat over the page to trace your doodle design and then assemble!

Good product the only bad thing is that you can’t use just any colored filament. It doesn’t tell you when you purchase the product that it only uses their filament so we bought a pack that can’t be used. Also their filament is very pricey.

I purchased the 3Doodler for my 10 year old grand daughter and she and I have had a blast using it. She has already made an apple tree, a little table, a banana and we have made some rings. It’s easy to use and exciting to see the results forming! We also really like that the plastic is earth friendly. I highly recommend this product!Also the company was very supportive when we first started using the pen and it was not functioning properly. I contacted the company and they could not have been more friendly and helpful. We wound up retuning the original pen and they replaced it no problem and we were able to begin our fun!

My daughter has had this pen for awhile and loves it but we noticed it was no longer holding charge so I contacted the company and was shocked at the quality of customer support. They responded quickly and above my expectations in resolving the issue. She’s back to doodling and when it’s time to upgrade the pen we will certainly buy from this company again. Some people have complained about the unique filament size, but the peace of mind I’m not getting burned is worth the extra price to me.

Greta basic 3d pen set
My granddaughters loved this set. It can be played with instantly. It has a grid that helps to guide their creations. We bought these for both granddaughters. The 8 year old was quite good at it. The 6 year old took longer to get the hang of using it but loved using it. Lots of fun.

Got 3 of these for my 5, 6, 7 year old daughters. They loved them and made gifts for friends and toys for themselves, but were a bit too excited/impatient at times so each pen started having some issues with extruding the filament. Customer service directly with 3Doodler was amazing and fast. They sent replacements, and tips on how to properly use the pen to avoid future clogging issues. Would highly recommend!

It’s easy to use, only minus I have is to be careful when ordering replacement wires, the ones that recommended with this pen is pretty expensive. I tried ordering cheaper ones and they didn’t work with this pen, it I would now it I would look for wires first and then picking a pen since most of the cost will be in material anyway.Besides that my 6 yo loves it, but he still needs a lot of assistance when building thing.

Great pen when you use correctly
My kids bought these pens with their birthday money and after only a few uses my sons was jammed. We had followed the directions carefully on how to use but couldn’t get the filament to reveres or extrude. After contacting customer service they were very quick to replace the broken pen and both kids enjoy creating with them. The charging time is long, it takes about an hour to charge and the run time is about the same. So when working on. Snigger project be prepared to take plenty of breaks. Overall we are happy with these pens and they have provided many fun creating opportunities.

I like this product as a beginner item or my 9 year old. It came with a lot of the ink to use. The only issue we have is that the ink gets jammed at the bottom when you press stop. so it kind of messes up your item if you don’t remembr to move it away.

My 5-year-old uses this. She doesn’t design anything too complex, but it’s great for making her slow down and be deliberate with her hands. Worked for 2 months before it jammed up, but it was pretty easy to disassemble and remove the jammed up bits.

The plastic that comes with is not strong enough draw upward to make 3d shapes. Also the pen will stop after about a minute or two if left constantly feeding filament out and will have to reboot the pen to reset and go again but it goes through the heat up process again too. So pause the feed periodically to avoid this inconvienent…what I guess is a safety measure. The pen feeds the filament slow enough for a kid to keep up. Also I touched the tip and hot plastic, it was warm but didn’t feel hot enough to burn. My 9 yr old has been having fun with it. Personally this is definatly a toy for a creative child with lots of patients and a steady hand.

Kids are STILL using this every day
I will be the first to admit that I thought this was going to be a novelty toy that my kids used once (then it would fall by the wayside). I mean, it’s basically a glorified glue gun! To my amazement my kids can’t get enough of it. They fight over it. They use it every single day. To be fair, there is no way a kid can make anything like the examples on the box. I realize their projects aren’t going to make it into a fine art gallery, but it keeps them busy and creative. They fix toys with the doodler, and are convinced it is a magical tool that can solve any problem. I never imagined I’d be giving this 5 stars, but whoever thought of this device is a genius (and clearly knows kids better than me!)

Creative Fun for Hours!
My son loves creating 3D objects with his 3Doddler Start+. He will sit for hours designing and then building 3D objects real and made up. This is a great item for someone who has alot of imagination and loves working in 3D. It lets them bring their creative ideas to life. I highly recommed this product. Simply the very best 3D printing pen for kids
Honestly I am not sure if my 6 year old daughter or if I am having more fun with this amazing product. It is well designed and you get real value for the money.If I had a suggestion for the manufacture, I would add pleasant audible tones to when it was ready to go and when it needs to be charged. I would also add a cool beep…beep…beep “reverse tone” when your unloading the pen. The Led indicator works but when your on the clock with a battery charge a polite reminder would be helpful, including the modes mentioned above.Finally, the customer service is second to none! Very polite and professional. One PRO tip I learned from them is if you can bend the plastic rod into a circle (end-to-end) and it is flexible, your are good to go! If it is brittle and breaks, it is not optimal to use.I would recommend this product to any family member or friend for kids. It is a great “safe” starter 3D printing pen!

Great starter kit
I purchased this pen and kit for my daughter as a Christmas gift. This has been a huge hit! She loves it. After having it for 6 months there are some best practices for when you turn off the pen. We had a clogged pen and customer service replaced it for us with no hassle. We did get some information on how to care for the pen.Our one big con for this kit. To order more sticks is very challenging. It takes a very special size and hard to find. Many other pens have more options for sticks and colors of sticks.

The media could not be loaded.
Love the pen as it is super easy to use .However, there isn’t an explanation about what size refil the pen uses. We bought lots (600 feet) of PLA refills and when we put them into the pen it won’t work.My son got very upset as he was waiting anxiously to finish his work.I would love to hear from the company as we still need refil replacement.I’m looking forward to hearing from you.LisiJune 16 2021

My 7 year old LOVES this, but battery length is short
My daughter said she wanted a 3D pen for her birthday and I just happened to be shopping for it during Amazon Prime Day, so I got a great deal on this. She was SO excited to open the box, with every item nicely packaged and it is very easy to use. In my head I was expecting it to be similar to a hot glue gun, so I was nervous to let her be independent with it, but the pen actually stays cool, as well as the tip and the melted plastic cools very fast. It takes a little playing with it to get the hang of it, but overall she’s already making ‘glasses’ and birthday cakes and other 3D items… My only ‘complaint’ is the battery life is pretty short. There is a nice USB charger that it comes with it, but we often have to stop mid-build to recharge for an hour or so. But honestly that wouldn’t be a deterrent to purchase this again or for someone else as a gift.

My daughter likes the idea of the printing pen however she has trouble working it as is a cheaper option. I think I will save up for a higher quality instead of refills because it is really meant for young children and is small. Great pen for little kids as a starter to 3d printing.

Fun fun fun
Got this for my 6 and 8 year old girls, but my husband and I have been having fun with it as well. It was an Amazon warehouse “used, like new” product stating just the box was damaged, and it was around $35. All items were included and it was unused. We have only had this a few days but it’s been used for hours and hours every day. The battery dies and we recharge it and use it till the battery dies again. We are almost out of the filament that was included. My kids are just barely tapping into the possibilities this little pen has for them, like making doll toys, decorating rocks, or hypnotizing their beanie boos (pictured). My 8 yr is high functioning autistic and she has been the one to use this the most. It’s clearly satisfying something inside of her, and I love that it’s in the form of art and engineering. You’re not going to get high quality prints but that’s not really the point. Also, this doesn’t have anywhere that will burn the kids. You could print the plastic straight onto your hand and be fine, so I can let the kids play with it without me watching over them and there have been no complaints of heat. Overall, it’s a super cool product and I would buy again! If we have any problems with it later on I’ll update this review.

I gifted these to very crafty 6 and 8 year olds. The 6 year old became frustrated quickly by the speed and process of the tool and had a really hard time controlling where the plastic would go. The 8 year old enjoyed it a bit more. I would say this tool would be better for ages 8+. Possibly 7+.

Fantastic – the kids are obsessed
I was worried that it might be a great fit for our 11-year-old and a little challenging for our 9-year-old. They’ve both been obsessed. They’ve made glasses, rocket ships, dreamcatchers, etc. My youngest has also taken to just writing cursive words with the pen. The first pen we had didn’t quite work as the directions suggested. When I reached out to the company about it, the response was speedy and very understanding. I’d said “We can use it, we just can’t get the reverse to work to get the “ink” back out. But it’s no big deal.” The person who emailed said “We want it to do what it’s supposed to do! We’ll send you a new one.” We did eventually get it to work kind of winging it, but by the time that happened, the company had already checked in with us and sent us a replacement with super no-hassle return shipping materials and labels so we can send the quirky one back. My oldest said “That was fast!” She’s also already asked for replacement filament for her birthday. I’m blown away by how good the instruction book is, how accessible this device is for young kids, how creative they’ve been with it, and how quick and helpful the customer service has been. Easily the highlight of the Christmas season in our house.

We have only had it a few days and we are already buying more plastic cartridges. Great gift! Be careful buying for kids who are too young, as it takes some skill to use sometimes. Fun but uses the plastic ink quickly
My son likes to use this and made me a nice butterfly from the starting design. You have to be careful with how quickly this thing uses the plastic “ink.” I appreciate how nothing gets hot enough to be dangerous to the kiddo. I have a complaint about the charging cord however. The port on the pen is very tight and the cord was cheap. This combination led to my son accidentally ripping the head off the charging cord so we have to use a better cord now.

Easy to learn

Easy to load, easy to operate.
Easy to load, easy to operate. The battery lasts a pretty decent while. It’s fun for doodling.If you haven’t ever used anything like this, it takes a bit of getting used to, like welding or hot gluing. You just have to learn the feel. I’m complete rubbish with it, but only because I’m complete rubbish at welding and hot gluing. I get the job done, but it ain’t pretty.Kids love it. Fun to add, say, decorative flowers to, say, my hat.

Don’t pull the filament immediately after turning off the pen
Update: the company finally replied and sent me a replacement. Don’t pull the filament back until 10 – 20 s after stopping the pen.Don’t waste your money. It stopped working just after return window. My kids last have used for few days. The company won’t return my mails.

Perfect for my 9 year old
My nine year old was gifted this for Christmas. Our pen unfortunately jammed and stopped working, however, the company provided great customer service and sent us a replacement. Once they received our original, they were able to diagnose the problem and let us know what happened to help prevent the issue occurring with the replacement. Definitely satisified and will continue to purchase their products!

Kept grandsons absorbed for hours
Took my grandsons 9 & 7 only a few minutes to get started—and they were quietly at work for most of an afternoon. Needed to order more plastic rods! And were eager to get back at it in the morning. One of the pens jammed later the second day. Called support and got to talk with someone right away. Answered a few diagnostic questions and was told they would send a new one with instructions to return the non-functioning one. He followed up immediately with an email providing detailed instructions for the information to send and how the process would work. When the company received the returned pen they checked it out. I received an email with the diagnosis and how to prevent the problem in the future.Great product & customer service.

Great kit my daughter loves
My daughter thought this pen was so much fun! I got the used-like new one and it had a problem where the motor didn’t work. Heater was fine. Ended up using my spudger, opening the white case, and noticed the motor wasn’t plugged in the socket on the pcb, which maybe was why it was returned. Plugged it in and we were in business!

Fun idea but…
My child loves playing with this but the lines that come out are so thin and slow it’s hard to create any substantial. Interchangeable heads to make thinner and thicker lines would be good and I wish the sticks were longer. She is 7. The charger cord is laughably short too, a minor inconvenience but worth noting as it makes it difficult to ensure the charger is engaged.

Kiddo loved it, 7 year old
My kiddo loved it when they turned 7. Spent a good couple of hours with their older siblings taking turns and just having fun at the table. The included mat and stencils were a nice touch. Will need to order some extra filament for Christmas.The plastic comes out cooler than toast, it’s still malleable, and you can tell it was just warm, but it is not going to hurt anyone. The tip is also safe. We have 4 kids, and I would feel comfortable giving this to a 5-year-old who learned not to eat plastic.Not sure about durability, it’s only been a month, but it seems sturdy and well-made. I tend to tinker and fix electronics (tv’s, game systems, phones, etc) and I don’t see a kid getting it apart or being able to crack into it.

Really fun and easy to use
The pen is excellent, my daughter is 8 and loves to play and create art. She previously had another brand and it broke after 6 month of use. This 3D pen has a nice design for small hands and it’s really practical to use.

Neat like craft pen that my 10yo really enjoyed. It’s a very nice size for a kid. Unfortunately the charger malfunctioned. I contacted the company who was incredibly helpful with troubleshooting and when that didn’t work they sent a replacement at no cost. The replacement has worked perfectly. Very pleased with this project

This pen is easy to use and quite fun. My 5 year old has enjoyed it immensely. We apparently fed an inappropriate plastic stick in (had a deformity at the end, we should have clipped it) and a piece became stuck and the pen failed. The customer service rep had a new replacement available for us in days with advice on how not to damage the new one. Great customer service! Now to teach my 5 year old to stop making hearts and to start building 3D structures!

This was an Xmas present for our 9 year old granddaughter and she used it shortly after. For the brief time she played with it she was having a great time and printed her name and made a heart shaped object. It worked nicely and she definitely greatly enjoyed it so we’ll see how it goes as time goes by.

fun – cheap good gift
I enjoyed it as an adult, but it might not be okay to give it to younger kids as it heats and can burn hands. I originally bought it as a gift for a friend’s kid but then decided not to give it in case they burned their hands with the heat and kept it for myself. You need to practice to master, and the end products are not durable.

How easy is easy
Like a washable marker but in the air? No. Like a slick glue gun that you need some patience and finesse to use? Yeah. It works, as described. It’s cool for kids…maybe older than the 6yr old I bought it for.

It is not a high precision device but it’s a lot of fun!
Bought this as a gift for my kid and he’s been playing with it most of the last two days. It takes a little getting used to but the kids like being able to make usable art with it. He has made glasses, little people, lots of ‘thimbles’, and misc. other things. I purchased this one because it is a safe and easy to use device for a younger kid (9 years old). The tip hasn’t burned us, and we haven’t had to mess with any temperature/feed rate settings. The pen just works as it’s supposed to, every time. It takes a fairly steady hand, and the plastic goes fairly quick, it’s probably been his favorite gift though!

Grandkids LOVE it!
My grandkids (ages 5,9 and 11)are crazy about this 3D pen. The tip of the pen doesn’t get hot so they can’t burn themselves. The only negative is you can only buy the 3D start filament for the pen,even other filament made by this manufacturer don’t work in it. Don’t ask me how I know! 😉 When you reorder more filament make sure you’re getting the right stuff cuz it’s expensive. But on the bright side I’m already stocked up for the inevitable upgrade to the Create pen. It’s so safe they can use it unsupervised! Best purchase of the summer!

Great Customer Support!
I have bought many of these to use in my classroom. The customer support is excellent! We have had a few that have had the filament jam inside. Customer support responds to your work order usually in just a few minutes. They walk you through some troubleshooting and if you can’t repair them on your own, they will repair them for you. We had a few that were just out of the manufacturer’s warranty, and they still repaired them free of charge.

Great customer service
I love that this pen doesnt get hot so its safe for children to use. Unfortunately our pen got jammed inappropriately matter of hours but the customer service team went above and beyond to help an old to replace the pen asap at no cost for us and made it very easy. The new pen has worked great thus far, I just wish there were more filament options.

Good product the only bad thing is that you can’t use just any colored filament. It doesn’t tell you when you purchase the product that it only uses their filament so we bought a pack that can’t be used. Also their filament is very pricey.

Great product, just a tad bit touchy on putting the filament through. Customer service however is fantastic and completely makes up for anything. They are fantastic at answering quickly, answering any questions you have, and very fast turnaround to replace a product and solve the issues with the ones that need it. Definitely recommend.

Fun 3D pen for kids – nice gift idea!
This 3d pen is easy to use and comes with everything that you need to get started – just charge (with the included cable) and go! Plenty of different colors are included for whatever design that you want to make. The idea book is a nice touch and shows you how to make many different things PLUS includes the templates needed – just place the clear mat over the page to trace your doodle design and then assemble!

We DID have a problem with it, it jammed, and it turns out that because we used another brand filament refill DON’T do that!! My daughter got this 3-D pen as a gift for Christmas. It Quit working a few weeks after she got it. The customer service was fantastic and they promptly set out a new pen along with some additional tips that would help avoid the issue in the future. The only downfall about this pen is that the filaments are hard to find/limited in options.

Best gift ever! (but the battery life isn’t very long)
I got this as a gift for my 8-year-old crafty niece and she really loved it. It came with the pen, a mat, an instruction book with some templates and some filament. I also bought her a large pack of replacement filament, but it didn’t work with this pen. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it doesn’t work with the non-brand name filament and because each time she used it, it ran out of battery. She could have sat there for HOURS creating if the battery allowed it. I would estimate it lasted about 30 minutes.

Good for young kids
Bought as a gift for a 6 year old. She has really enjoyed playing with it. The extrusion is a safe temperature for young kids, no burns! I would recommend getting some additional filament, the amount that comes with the pen doesn’t last very long. Only complaint is the battery life. I haven’t tried to estimate a length of time, but it seems like it is constantly running out. Maybe 1 hour of use before it needs charged again.

This is a very fun product and I can’t wait to make more things with my kid, but the learning curve is pretty steep. Make sure you start with easier projects. And get extra filament!

I purchased this product for my 6 year old. She was so excited to use it. The product is defective. We tried to put the sticks in and they barely fit. The pen turns on but nothing comes out and then you have to really pull to get the plastic to come back out. The packaging when opened looked like things were missing. Would not buy again.

Best value starter pen
My son is 8 years old and was gifted a 3Doodler for his birthday. This pen was the most “bang for your buck” while also being kid friendly. It comes with many different colors and is easy to use right away. After a few uses, we had a slight issue with the thread getting caught in the pen (wouldn’t melt or reverse out) and they immediately replaced my son’s pen with no issues. Our new one is working great and he loves designing things!
