Great decoration. The sound is beautiful and I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I assume most are from people expecting a North American xylophone (this is not an American instrument and the notes are not the same nor the same note structure). Solid little item that is roughly the length of a large dinner plate. It was well packaged but in a box way too large which allowed it to move freely (luckily the delivery company handled it with care). The packaging left room for it to break if it were tossed around, so I suggest using more size appropriate boxes in future shipments as one half the size would have worked.

This was definitely worth the wait time. I love the craftsmanship! I was like some people in their comments when I first tried playing it, but then my son showed me how to separate the wood pieces just right and it will play all the notes. Don’t confuse it with the typical metal xylophones. View it as a unique musical instrument to have fun with, especially with kids. Great price for a unique Thai instrument!

Technically it is an instrument. Is it necessarily a good one? No.If you strike the wood, you will hear tones change, just like a regular xylophone. However the tones are not bright or even distinct, really.I bought it for decoration, not for use. For that reason, I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a very beautiful percussion INSTRUMENT. It is truly an instrument. Maybe the word ‘xylophone’ is misleading to some. It is a percussion instrument not a xylophone. If you are looking for a typical rainbow steel ‘xylophone’ then this isn’t the piece for you. If you are seeking a unique percussion instrument to enhance or begin your appreciation for international percussion differences, this is an excellent choice. Makes a perfect gift for a percussion professional, teacher, or enthusiast. Makes a great student/child teaching piece (world cultural instruments, not twinkle twinkle little star), but it is most certainly NOT A TOY. This is something to put somewhere special, use for percussion, and a great conversation piece. The science alone of how the different tones are formed from different sizes and elevation of the wood adds to conversation, learning, and percussion appreciation. The color is beautifully dark and it came wrapped very carefully.

Very pretty was my 1st thought. Originally purchased because my 11yr son is a beginner percussionist & he’s been learning marimbas so I thought this would be good for him to just practice. With the price being so low, I bought 2 so he could teach others to play. Once received, these are so small, they can’t be an instrument but more a decorative item. Does produce different sound per key & can be played as such, xylophone or marimba, etc. Could be a great teaching tool, kids toy, practice piece for beginners, or simply a nice decor piece for music lovers or your fav music / band teacher. But do be aware of what you’re buying here. My pic has a ruler to show you the size of the sticks as well as the item. Yes, I’d buy it again. Beautifully designed & crafted. Price is really good for the item. I could see these going for double as a novelty in a music shop.

This is great art object but is not enjoyable to play as a musical instrument because of the extremely high pitch and the lack of pitch distinction between each key or block and the next, which sometimes seems to be substantially less than a semitone. There is a distinction between the keys to the far right and the far left, so that rhythms may be successfully tapped on it, but it is not useful for melodic playing. I bought it for use in the music classroom, but none of the kids ever tap on it more than once. It looks great on my desk; I recommend it highly as a decorative item only.

I purchased a Burgi Women’s Crystal Accented Swiss Watch -The first watch delivered to me was clearly a restocked item. Tab to actavate battery was missing, Battrey was deadand box was from an older model. A proactive plastic coating had been removed from the watch band. I called an Amazon Agent and he saved the day for me. He took action immediately to make the proper adjustments for my account. He provided me with a replacement watch, and made complete arrangmentd for me with UPS to efficiently and quickly return the defective watch. The replacement watch was obviously new with a updated jewelry box all protective plastic coating was in place. I felt that this watch was not a restock item. Strong construction!
This item came in after going through what I would assume to be package hell. The “box” was delivered to me covered in a plastic bag with a label that said it was received damaged by the post office. I really feared the worst. i opened up the box and though there was plenty of mold on it, the product barely had a scratch! The striking hammers were even fully intact! After a good cleaning with diluted bleach water, I have it resting on my windowsill to dry out after being most for so long. The design are beautiful and this thing is made of some strong and thick wood! The tuning is a bit out, but I am pretty sure it just need to dry a bit. This will be a great centerpiece and I look forward to playing on it for a long while. For 20 dollars, this is an amazing purchase!

A decorator piece for novelty and conversation. My grandkids will love banging on it and I am sure it will hold up, but do be thinking it is musical…it is not. At a small 8 1/2 inches long, 3 inches deep and 51/2 inches high, it will fit in many places including a bookshelf.

Really nice piece, hand carved, and can be used as a basic instrument. Stands approx 6″ tall and 10″ at the widest top portion. It has a nook below the teak planks to store the xylophone sticks – 2. I was bummed that some reviews knocked it as “not a real instrument”. You can play the basic notes which sound better than I expected for the cost. The best feature – virtually everyone picks it up to play it!

It has 8 keys. Individually, they sound like 2, maybe 3 notes at most. If you run across all of them, it’s easier to tell the difference. The strings holding the keys can be tied or untied. I might have tied it incorrectly, but it didn’t come with instructions, so I’m not sure. Overall, worth the less than $20.

Make this purchase for the handcrafted beauty. If you’re going for the musical value alone, well, pots and pans are still more expensive, so just dont expect long melodic tones; think percussion. All in all, its an absolute steal. Triple the price on it and its still well worth it imo.

I purchased a Burgi Women’s Crystal Accented Swiss Watch -The first watch delivered to me was clearly a restocked item. Tab to actavate battery was missing, Battrey was deadand box was from an older model. A proactive plastic coating had been removed from the watch band. I called an Amazon Agent and he saved the day for me. He took action immediately to make the proper adjustments for my account. He provided me with a replacement watch, and made complete arrangmentd for me with UPS to efficiently and quickly return the defective watch. If you are looking for an instrument of quality and you will only spend this amount and want to complain that a 20 dollar piece is not capable of using in a venue,….you need to evaluate how you think…or quit trying to pay the least amount for the highest quality.This is meant for decorating and should not be used for performance as some of the reviewers are trying to do…you need to pay thousands for a real instrument…….have to pay to play….this is a great art piece at a good price.

There are a lot of negative reviews on this due to the fact that most people dont understand that it is not a standard xylophone and the sounds are not the same. This piece looks amazing and the hand carved design is very appealing. It was scheduled for delivery much later than it actually arrived. I am beyond impressed with this purchase.

I personally would not be buying to use as an instrument. I bought it for unique Decor. Looks great! There are a few videos of the sound, so I would listen to that if you plan on buying to use as a musical instrument. I do get lots of compliments

Lovely, whimsical home decor
As a piece of home decor, it is a lovely addition. The details carved into the wood make it a lovely accent atop our music cabinet. I had originally purchased it, thinking it would be a small musical instrument for my grandchildren to play with when they visit. Although the keys do sound a bit different, it is not enough to make a tune. I do very much like the looks of it, so I decided to keep it, and I like the fact that it came with a note from the family who makes these.

Strong construction!
This item came in after going through what I would assume to be package hell. The “box” was delivered to me covered in a plastic bag with a label that said it was received damaged by the post office. I really feared the worst. i opened up the box and though there was plenty of mold on it, the product barely had a scratch! The striking hammers were even fully intact! After a good cleaning with diluted bleach water, I have it resting on my windowsill to dry out after being most for so long. The design are beautiful and this thing is made of some strong and thick wood! The tuning is a bit out, but I am pretty sure it just need to dry a bit. This will be a great centerpiece and I look forward to playing on it for a long while. For 20 dollars, this is an amazing purchase!
